All of the books I have included in this post have led me to lead
a more productive and inspired life. When I read each one of them it made me
feel excited, and I think that is key when reading a self-help/inspirational story,
you want to feel motivated and ready to tackle or create goals. I think the
joining factor in all the books in this article is that they present life in a
different way then you would usually look at it, which makes you look at yours from
a different perspective and want to change it for the better.
Good Vibes, Good Life by Vex King
Vex King is a social media influencer, writer, mind coach
and lifestyle entrepreneur. He experienced many hardships growing up, but despite
this managed successfully turn his life around. Using his own experiences and
knowledge he has gained along the way he aims to teach the power of using positivity
to transform people’s lives in the same way he did.
I read this book back in January 2020 and felt as though I learnt
a lot from it. I have always found spirituality intriguing and looked at books
of this genre before but felt overwhelmed by the mass of information. This is one
of the reasons I loved this book; it has all the information you need to know
from a positive outlook to learning about good and bad vibrations, to
manifesting your goals, but rather than being overwhelming with heaps of
information, this book is written in
short and concise chapters. Vex challenges us to change the way we look at life,
I think this a book anyone would benefit from reading, especially if you are
new to learning about spirituality and changing your mindset.
Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso
This book is written by the owner/founder of the fashion
brand Nasty Gal. Her story from literally ‘rags to riches’ is inspiring, and
her anecdotes of spirituality are honest and relatable. This book is part life
advice, part biography. Amoruso looks back on her youth, including some of her less
desirable actions like shoplifting, which she does not condone, but appreciates
is part of her journey that got her to where she is today. I found her honesty
about her motivations then and now refreshing. Girl Boss is an inspiring book, and
I found it interesting to find out what goes on behind the scenes of a popular
fashion brand.
This book has an emphasis on female empowerment and is
packed with motivational quotes and success stories from other girl bosses in
addition to Amoruso’s own, if you are looking to start your own business or just
interested to find out what it takes to start a one, I would recommend reading
this book.
How To Be A Badass by Jen Sincero
This book is an entertaining how-to guide written by Jen
Sincero, who is a bestselling author and world-travelling success coach. The
book is made up of 27 chapters full of advice, inspiring stories and easy exercises
you can implement into your life.
At first, I found this book challenging to get into to begin
with. However, I gave it a second chance and was glad I persevered with it, as there
was some very insightful knowledge. The book is written in the manner like you
are being spoken to by your most brutally honest friend, who only wants the
best for you. This book has an emphasis on self-love and doing the best for
yourself, I have a few of favourite quotes from this book, the first is ‘Erase
the phrase “I don’t know” from your vocabulary and replace it with “I’ll know
soon enough”, as someone who is guilty of saying “I don’t know” far too much,
this resonated with me and is something I have taken on board. The second was on
the topic of manifestation, which I am still on a journey of learning about. The
book tells you to write your own ‘Manifesto’ down, she tells you to write it as
specifically as possible and to read it every morning and every night before
bed, and the more you want it and have a connection to it the faster it will
become a reality.
Atomic Habits by James Clear
Atomic Habits is a step-by-step manual on how to change your
routines to create better habits to not only reach your goals but how to maintain
them. James clear had spent years prior to writing this book studying the
science of habits. The book contains many diagrams, which illustrate the
studies he explains in his book. Another feature which stood out to me was the bullet-pointed
summaries at the end of each chapter, I think this is great for when you are referring
back to the book or to refresh your memory when reading other related parts of
the book.
This book had great reviews and had been recommended to me by
people close to me. In other self-help books, habits are touched on, but this
goes deeper. The hypnosis of the book is to not focus on the goal but instead
the system which gets you to the goal. One of my favourite parts of the book is
when Clear provides examples of how your habits make you who you are, such as ‘each
time you write a page, you are a writer’ or ‘each time you practice the violin,
you are a musician’.
